The Stone Strong System...the first and only fully engineered precast block.Project:Lowe’s in Chester, NY installed by Landscape Unlimited The new Lowe’s in Chester, NY at the intersection of Rte 17 (future Interstate 86) and Rte 94 require space for trailer delivery. The site was restricted by the adjacent highways and exit ramps and existing high tension power lines. Lowe’s needed a retaining wall system that would not require additional excavation for geogrid, which would be required with most retaining wall systems. The solution was the Stone Strong Retaining Wall System. Using Bell Engineering’s design for poured inplace mass extenders LHV Precast was able to provide a Stone Strong Retaining System that required less excavation, therefore maintain an open excavation with a safe distance from the highways and power lines. Landscape Unlimited install approximately 13,000 square foot face in less then 25 days including excavation to sub-grade, installation of an 18’ high Stone Strong Retaining Wall with poured in-place mass extenders, and backfill in January of 2008. At the peak of installation Landscape Unlimited install 1,900 square foot face per day averaging 600 square foot face per day. This project took advantage of the Stone Strong Retaining Wall using the gravity system and poured inplace mass extender the contractor was able to work with the confines of the existing conditions installing a safe secure retaining wall.
